Rotary Adopt A School (RAAS) Information

A. Sports Day for All on 2 November 2013 at Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground
The site visit originally scheduled on 2 August but postponed to 9 August 10:30 a.m. due to the bad weather. Rotarians are welcome to join in.
Since Hong Kong Jockey Club turned down the application for funding support due to timing concern and the nature of the event is different from the original application that HKBSF applied for 2 years’ financial support to direct benefit Visual Impaired people, the OC was advised to raise funds on its own. A fund-raising sub-committee chaired by Grace Chan, CEO of HKBSF was formed and Rotary will consider supporting.

B. Site Visit to Green Technology Consortium Campus (GTC) on 18 Aug 2-4 pm
GTC is located in the 120,000 sq. ft. Campus at Sheung Shui where displays various Green Technologies:
– Food waste processing centre: manage up to 50 tons daily including 60,000 to 120,000 lunch boxes
– Food waste machine training centre: display various machines from few kg. up to 100 kg.
– Urban Organic Farm: illustrate modern organic farming solutions inside city
– Japanese Experimental Farm: Japanese researcher doing R&B projects
– Hydroponic Farm: provide water farming vegetable
– GTC Green Room: display solar light and wind powered system, bamboo
flooring, chemical free cleaning solution

C. 2013 Hong Kong Student Calligraphy Exhibition cum Prize Presentation Ceremony on 21 September 2013 at 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at Sheung Wan Civil Centre, Exhibition Hall.
DG Eugene and Mr. Edwin Tsui, Principal Education Officer (Kowloon) will be invited to be Guests of Honour. Exhibition of Chinese Handwriting Calligraphy will take place from 21 to 23 September 2013. You are welcome to visit the Exhibition.

A. Sports Day for All on 2 November 2013
It will be held at Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground with the
following aims:
– To promote public awareness especially to school students on the needs and
abilities of the blind in sports training and competitions.
– Through success in sports competitions to regain the self-confidence of blind and
visually impaired people.
– To recruit interested visually impaired people to take part in sports training.
-To recruit interested school students / teachers / their family members and
corporate staff as guides for visually impaired athletes.
– To break the Guinness World Record for the “Longest Handshake Chain” jointly
by people with and without visual impairment so as to build a harmonious society.

B. CDIA Official Launch Ceremony and Concert on 16 August 2013
– Child Development Initiative Alliance (CDIA) comprises of leading business and community organization, bearing similar belief and conviction to youth development.
– CDIA committed organizations to advocate the novel holistic approach in youth development.
-Together, we will raise social awareness of youth issues and enlist further support from all sectors of the society.
– Official Launch Ceremony will be held at 7pm on Friday, 16 August 2013 at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jockey Club Auditorium

C. Postponement of Site Visit to Green Technology Consortium Campus
Due to the anticipating bad weather and raining during the coming weekend caused by Typhoon Utor, Environmental Program Sub-committee Chair President Mawin Cheung advised to postpone the captioned visit till further notice.

The details of the 4th Organising Committee Meeting of Sports Day for All 傷健 共融運動日 are as follows:

Venue: Moon Room, 5/F, Standard Chartered Tower, 388 Kwun Tong Road, Kwun Tong.

B. Child Development Initiative Alliance (CDIA) Official Launch Ceremony and Concert on 16 August 2013
– The objectives of CDIA are to influence societal value, cultivate the culture of youth development in the community and engage them in this holistic youth development movement.
-DG Eugene Fong, PDG Tony Wong and 30 participants including RAAS Committee members, Principals and teachers of RAAS partnering schools were invited to attend the Concert at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jockey Club Auditorium.

C. Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College – Art Exhibition
An Art Exhibition was set up by Principal Eric Yuon to show the masterpieces produced by students of Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College. It takes place at Cultural Centre, Tsimshatsui from 21-22 August 2013.

Introduction of Rotary Adopt a School Programme

In the year 2005, Past RI President Carl Wilhelm Stenhammar proposed World Literacy in Action and encouraged every Rotary Club in our Rotary World to consider adopting a School.

Past District Governor Peter Wan initiated the idea of Rotary Adopt A School project to all Rotary clubs of our district.He formed the committee and was the first Chairman of Rotary Adopt A School programme, working with the Education Bureau as our service partner.
