Art therapy Project

Want to see what an hour of art jamming fun
with children can result in?

An unique experience of fun, laughter, messy colors and water, trials and painting overs….. and an unimaginable orderly scene when a group of us Members and RCCs decide to meet our beneficiaries (15 children aged from 6 to 13 with 2 pairs of twins!) to paint over cute little easels of canvas!  The creations speak for themselves whereby the children pick their own topics, draft and paint,  the expressions that they wish to declare dance and scream on the paint boards.

It does not need an art therapist to tell that there are behavior and learning difficulties in some children, heart wrenching as it is to watch and more painful to understand as we learnt more about their family backgrounds and predicaments.  And the timidity and silence in some took the whole morning of gentle coaching before trust and rapport could be established over lunch of fried chicken and pizza!  It was all in all a remarkable experience for us to come so close to our young clients while shedding a slight glimpse into their hearts.

The morning of art jamming is ad hoc to the continuous 12-month project we run with Christian Action’s Tai Kok Tsui/Mongkok Center; whereby we provide after-school homework and child care services to 13 families of single-parent, low income new immigrants.  We engage the children after school so the parent will be free to find gainful employment and be developed into full-fledged employable citizens who are independent from social welfare net while the children are being coached and integrated to school and the communities.

Soft skills workshops are being arranged to prep and train the adults on work attitude, work ethics and how to find work, while employers are being arranged to do on-site career talks and recruitments. Interview sessions are hosted, offers are made and employments are secured for those who are ready. Our effort will continue to secure their integration into our communities while assistance will continuously be rendered until they can stand on their own feet.

Our project is a continuous one from RY13/14 to RY14/15 but our beneficiaries might not be the same as some will no longer need our assistance while new ones are admitted. Do come and join us either for a session or a continual effort whereby you will gain a better understanding of a world different from your own!
