A Remarkable Project in Eradicating  Hepatitis B in Mainland China from 2002 to 2010

Healthy Livers 1

And the story continues…

HEPATITIS FREE MONGOLIA

Mongolia has the highest rates of viral hepatitis B, C and liver cancer in the world. 77% of the population have or have had hepatitis B at some point in their life. 1 in 6 people have hepatitis C. Liver cancer in Mongolia is six times higher than the international average and is responsible for 10% of death.78% of liver cancer patients are not diagnosed until the disease has reached stage III or IV. 85% of liver cancer patients die within one year of diagnosis.

Rotary Club of Ulaanbaatar jointly with Rotary Club of Flagstaff, D5510 is going to start a viral hepatitis and liver cancer screening and awareness program in Mongolia.

This screening and awareness program supports the World Health Organization’s Global Health Strategy to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030.

This project will help undiagnosed, high-risk individuals learn their health status, teach them to prevent disease transmission and provide resources to save and change their lives. It will reach every community in this province and be conducted in October and November 2016.

There are many clubs in Mongolia, Hong Kong, Makao, New Zealand and United States are supporting this project.

Rotary in Mongolia has already been involved in the viral hepatitis prevention.  There is one-minute-long public service announcement produced to support World Hepatitis Day on 28 July 2016.

Through the spirit of fellowship and service above self, Rotary is in the unique position to be able to eliminate viral hepatitis in Mongolia just as it has done with Polio across the world.
