GRAEME HOWELL: Earthbag technology in Nepal

Following the Earthquake in Nepal in April 2015, I went on a self funded trip to help with the relief effort there.

During my time there I helped many of the quake victims with shelter, WASH, medical assistance/supplies and emergency feeding.
The trip allowed me to witness first hand the suffering and plight of the people there and was myself in Kathmandu when the second earthquake hit.
After my experiences there I decided to raise funding to help build a classroom using ” Earthbag technology ” and to return to Nepal with a team of seven others who like myself were ex-armed forces, firefighters and medics to complete the project.
We not only built a classroom in five days but also educated 20 local builders in how to use this method to continue to rebuild damaged buildings. In January 2016 I will leave the UK Fire Service to continue my humanitarian work.
